Malaysia's Independence

To all that's been waiting for the Überlingen entry, I'm sorry this is not it. Hopefully, I'll be able to do just that this evening. Quite busy right now, packing for my trip to Flensburg in northern Germany to visit a very good friend of mine before travelling down back to Reutlingen and prepare for my trip back home. Just to mention that, I called up another good friend of mine in Malaysia asking her how she is doing cause recently she mentioned she had a toothache and I was hoping that she would be okay. Funny enough when I called up she said the pain was back. Maybe it was due to the clenching of teeth every time I ring her up? *wink* Anyway she mentioned something about my article being published in the Sun newspaper today (an article that I sent to a friend of mine who's currently a free lance at the Sun newspaper) and thought I'd give it a look. Surfing the web I found my article at this address:- http://www.sun2surf.com/article.cfm?id=19054

It may seem short after being edited but if you want to read the original article that I sent him, here goes:-

A friend came to visit me once in Germany, and told me that my room looked like the Malaysian Hall in London. Intrigued by this statement I ask him how is that possible. He pointed to the flag hanging on my wall with this grin on his face. I looked back at him and smiled. I then said “This flag, proudly hanging on my wall, is who I am and who I want my children to be later when they grow up. The golden yellow crescent and star, the proud blue, the striking red and the calming white all indicates that I am a proud free man. I’m Munawwir Khan Bin Yusoff Khan currently a third year engineering student majoring in mechatronics here at the University of applied sciences Reutlingen in Germany and I am honoured to be a Malaysian.”. Few might say that I’m just a patriotic fool but what I would like to tell these few is that there is nothing wrong with being patriotic.

Malaysia has grown quite vastly in these 50 years. With skyscrapers racing each other everyday trying to be at the top of the world, there stands the proud KLCC and while many other countries are trying to grasp for a little taste of the future, Malaysia is bestowed with intellectuals and generations of tech-savvy citizens, who brings the future to the present. But with all its’ pride and glory, Malaysians seem to float away from their roots. What ever happened to politeness and courtesy towards one another? When did we stop caring for the nation and just be selfish? What happened really in these 50 years? Have we really forgotten our forefathers who fought for the freedom? The ones that died trying to save our country from just being slaves to others?

I was walking with a German friend of mine one day when he asked me what’s new in Malaysia. I pondered for a while. Should I really quote the news on how murder cases are spreading like mushrooms after rain in every state in Malaysia or perhaps the news on how a teacher molested a student? Maybe even an indication on how that the rape case in Malaysia has increased but not as much as the numbers of drug addicts that continue to blow over the roof?

Malaysians out there who claim themselves to be a true Malaysians, here I am begging of you, love your country for it has done so much for you. Though you might not realize it, Malaysia is the land you are stepping on this very instant and Malaysia is the air that you are breathing. Malaysia is the blood that runs through your veins and Malaysia is every step that you take. It’s accompanied and guided you for so long and it’s the song of hope when you feel down. Now that Malaysia has reached it’s 50 years of independence, why not return the favour and guide it back to its original path of success. Let not it be sucked into the portal of immorality and damnation. Maintain its freedom and honour its name. Give me a reason to once again say out loud here in this foreign country, how meaningful it really is to be a Malaysian.

My wish to Malaysia and all Malaysians, happy 50th Independence Day and may the fighting spirit of Malaysia live on.

p.s. Seriously hopping that one day the national football team would make it to the world cup.

And so it is.... Malaysia love you, and may you prosper for always....

First of all, let me say that it's an article well written and should be pondered deeply by readers especially if you're a malaysian.

i would say yes... it's sad to see how malaysia is inversely growing in proportion when it comes to technology and morality. it seems that our technology and prosperity are booming up greatly but at the cost of social degradation and mental limitation.

Why is it so..? aren't we supposed to be honored and proud to show our asian and malaysian heritage and culture... why must we copy the european and most of all those wankers who calls themselves americans..? Malaysia should be portraying the malaysian culture and morality... Not some borrowed segment from other to assimilate to our own...

let me tell you one thing, being in overseas really teaches us the value of being a malaysian... the value of being an asian... We are the gems among the glass only we haven't known it yet...

So be proud of yourself for being a malaysian and an asian... Be proud of your heritage...

I would say cheers to that and happy birthday malaysia!!!
