Reutlingen oh Reutlingen

Fastnacht celebration in Rottenburg 2008

My mom once told me, never promise anything that you don't intend to keep. If a person is intelligent enough, they would probably say soething like, ' I promise not to keep on lying... but there is no harm in telling half the truth or not saying anything at all.' I might be mentioning that in some other entry. Anyway, before we go off the course, I would like to mention the topic of this entry. Reutlingen.

What's a Reutlingen some might ask. Well, it's not what nor is it how. Reutlingen is the name of the place where I'm currently studying. (yeah I know my geography sux) Anyhow, Reutlingen is situated in the southern part of Germany, and is about an hour away from Stuttgart. (notice I mention Stuttgart there?) Or a better reference is the city named Tuebingen which is about 10 minutes train ride from Reutlingen.

Unlike Tuebingen, Reutlingen is not a university city and what we have here is only the university of applied sciences. Surely I won't want to put too much detail about the history nor it's uniqueness cause I'm not really into such things. (and furthermore I'm just too damn lazy to write about that. If you want to know more, then just google the damn thing okay.) My main intrest in this entry is focused more on the typical Malaysian life here in Reutlingen.

New Year 2005

Currently, there are about 30 Malaysian students studying in Reutlingen and the number is decreasing every year. (Seriously people. Reutlingen is not that bad. For the students who are applying to come here to study and is influenced by seniors, don't get too involved in their words. Choose wisely and surf the net for info. p.s Choose Reutlingen. =P) Of course having such a large Malaysian student's population here has a very beneficial effect. We have annual celebrations of Hari Raya, new year fireworks, after exams bbq and of course the summer bbqs. Apart from that, the foreign student's society here in Reutlingen is for more active than most others university of applied sciences in Baden Wuerttemburg. (thanks to our co-ordinator Julie)

Raya 2007

Talking about studying in the engineering department, Reutlingen offers vast numbers of bachelor and masters degrees, including mechanical, mechatronics, chemistry and a very indifferent textile. (Most of the people might not realise it but Reutlingen was once and maybe is, I'm not sure, the leading centre of textile manufacturing). Of course for students who are intrested in other subjects, the university of applied sciences also offers internatinal business courses and information technologies. (Listen to me. I'm promoting my university... wohooo)

Excursion Salzburg

For entertainment, Reutlingen has a bowling alley, couple of pool or snooker centres, the big Farberei 4 (a discotheque), couple of fitness centres and a kino@cinema. But of course, if one wishes to watch a movie in english, the cinema here in Reutlingen doesn't offer that.
And to chill out, there are a few coffee shops where one can sit and just hang out.

Reutlingen is also a haven for fashion freaks and metrosexual guys. Just about 7 minutes from Reutlingen is a place called Metzingen where one can shop for branded clothings for factory prices. The lots of FOS (factory outlet stores) offers brands from Boss to Levi's, Nike to Adidas, as well as Lacoste, Balley and other european fashion brands. For muslims to buy halal meat, there are a few Turkish grocers, whom offers poultry to fishes with of course almost reasonable price.

Well I guess I'll have to stop here and after this, I shall resume to my so old sarcastic entries. =p
Cheerios and pecae out.
