10 things to do before moving out

So lama tak update.... Sorry peeps. Actually been buzy these past few days. Went to Hamburg to help a friend out. Well he moved there last week cause he's doing he's practicals there. Then there are a few others who also moved to new houses here in Reutlingen (which I will be doing soon) So in this so called 'moving out' festive season I would like to list down 10 important rules of moving out. Well here goes:-

1) Throw out the unnecessary stuff- This is the utmost important rule of moving out. Why is this so? Well before during the moving, you wouldn't want to take a bunch of crap to your new place. The question is this... How come there is so much crap that you have to get rid off when you're moving out? Well simple. Cause as consumers, we keep on buying crap from that's been shoved into our nose every single day. To lessen the burden of throwing out crap, simply don't buy crap. Just get the stuff that you need to use. Tadaa. Problem solved.

2) Seperating the crap from the non crap- Well this is actually another step that is derived from the most important rule. How do you seperate the crap from the non crap? Simple, if you don't use it, it's crap. If you rarely use it, well...why the hell did you buy it in the first place? Just borrow it from someone. Anyway, now that you've bought it, take some time and just picture this. Are you really going to use it in the future? (eg shoes that has not been worn for ages.) Well you have got to also put into consideration that things age too. So if you keep on keeping them, trust me, it's not going to be antique but just another piece of crap.

3) Packing- people don't realise this, packing is actually an art. The thing is, don't stuff the box with so much heavy stuff that it's gonna break while you lift it (that is if you can lift it). Segregate the weight like you segregate your time for your spouse and games. Don't push everything into one box like you push all your work to the last minute. (another tip for packing, instead of buying the boxes, if possible get it from some store that throws them out or re-use them if possible)

4) What to pack first? - Well from the third rule comes this 4th rule. How do you choose which stuff to pack first? The rule is, pack the things you most likely won't be using during the moving period first. Items like books, files, and clothes are priorities to be packed first. (don't pack all your clothes-lah. Make sure there is enuff to wear from the time you pack till the moving day)

5) Label- Ensure that all the boxes are labelled. Eg. Clothes, DVD's, Magazines, computer and glasses. Another tip here, if the stuff is fragile and is worth something to you, make sure to label it as fragile as well, so that later on you won't just chuck it into your truck and end up with tiny pieces of glasses or something like that instead.

6) Clean up- The one important thing that I've learnt here in Germany is the importance of cleaning up your own mess. Besides teaching one some responsibilities (pls if you don't know what responsibility means, then you are not allowed to read my blog), it will also leave a good impression to the next tenants who will be replacing you. (Put this into mind ppl. I'm sure that you yourselves wouldn't want to move in to a place that looks like a dumpster right?)

7) Loading the truck- Whatever vehicles you choose to move your stuff, ensure that it's able to get your stuff where you want it to go. Don't be a smartass and try to move a refrigerator on your bike or an assembled clothes cabinet in your 'kancil'. Loading and organizing the stuff is also another art and if you have mastered tetris, then there wouldn't be any problem for you.

8) Cancellation of service from providers or change addresses - Before you move out, there are of course some important things that you need to adhere. Make sure that all your electric bills, telephone bills and such other nonsense bills have been settled and if you are to use the same service provider in your new house, an early information of the changing of your address is necessary. Otherwise, just cancel the damn thing. With this and most of the above things done, you're almost set.

9) Locking up- Before you leave, lock the old place up or it would be a natural habitat for the so called human parasites. This done, you are good to go. Now you wonder what is your last step rite? Here it is...

10) Saying goodbye- Before you leave a place, do inform the neighbours of your departure. As a sign of good gesture, it is important that your neighbours know that you wouldn't be bothering them anymore with any of your loud musics or the late night parties (which naturally you don't invite them to cause they are too old =P) or if the neighbours who are annoying, it's your last chance to tell them, how glad you are to leave them and never have to see them anymore. Now you can start your engine and get the hell out of where ever it is you are.
