Sepi... A Malaysian Film

The gap between Malaysian films and foreign films (Hollywood, Bollywood, Korean, Japanese and even Indonesian) have been quite vast for quite some time. Although films have been produced since we achieved our independence almost 51 years come this 31st August, there are only few that we can be proud of. Still remember the P. Ramlee era? Since the legend, there has been talk that Malaysia can't seem to produce a movie of its own identity.  Till now that is...

I'm a movie buff and though what many might say, I do support the Malaysia's film industries. Being overseas doesn't really hinder my interest in Malaysia's movies growth and quite recently I'm proud to say, Malaysia's film industries has put a lot of effort into making films with it's own charm and through it gives birth to a whole new breed of Malaysian filming. From Yasmin Ahmad's Sepet, Mukhsin and Gubra to Kabir Bhatia's Cinta, I was in awe.

Recently, Kabir Bhatia launched a new film entitled 'Sepi' and is now still playing in cinemas nationwide. Unfortunately for me, I haven't got the chance just yet to catch this movie but from the many positive feedbacks I got, I certainly want to watch this movie by hook or by crook. If you do have time to spare, I would definitely recommend this movie.

Synopsis:-
Like Kabir's previous movie Cinta, this movie revolves around the theme 'Love' or to be more exact, it focusses more on the theme 'loneliness' in this film. The story is based on the romance of three individuals from different backgrounds. A young talented chef in search of the true meaning of love, a man trying to overcome his loss of love and a lady playwright whom portrays her past through her work which secretly unfolds to lead her to her future.

Comments:-
Well like I said I haven't watch the movie just yet but if what I've heard is really true, it just shows that the genre love can be portrayed from different angles and finding the right angle is what needed from the Malaysian film industries. This is the case for this movie which I find really refreshing seeing that although the term 'love' has been thrown back and fourth a million times in films, Kabir was able to show there is more to it and my sincere congrats to him for giving this theme a new breath of life.

All said and done, what is there left for me is to go out and watch this movie. If you have watched this movie, do comment and tell me what's your opinion bout it. If not I suggest we go and watch it first. May Malaysian Film Industries continue to boom and who knows, one day when you speak of a Malaysian film, directors and movie goers all around the world would be left in awe... breathless.

I leave you know with the trailer from this movie and I hope you enjoy it. Leave a comment if there's anything that I left out...
