Have you ever had one of those days when you just stop a while and wonder off into your own fantasy world? You remind yourself of the past and not to forget the present. The people, the places, the time and events seem to portray themselves in a blurred yet real life vision and you start to translate each and every single one of them into your own interpretation of experience while trying to grasp it's significance?
I had such an opportunity today and there was this one incident that really stuck in my mind. It happened a few years back, well to be fair, it still happens. In the exasperation of trying to convey my opinion of an issue, I was labeled 'emo', or basically a short form of emotionally distress. As I look back, to every single one of such experience, I begin to ask the question how is it that one defines emotionally distress? How do you even differentiate emotionally distress and passionate? If one was to talk of his principles with a great sense of enthusiasm, some might define that as passionate while others might label the person as 'emo'. Though I don't feel that such a label was meant to be taken seriously, but just imagine, a person of description, was there talking with the eagerness of a child, who've just learned how to walk, and was at the end of the discussion to be tripped over by such a label... that's just wrong isn't it? (even though the intention was to get a few laughs out of it) Being polite, I just smiled and accept that these people are just teasing and meant no harm, though everytime that occurs, I just wonder, in which possible manner can such a tease be of any entertainment? Is it my reaction or the reaction of others? Or maybe the gush feeling of euphoria triggered by the simplemindedness of humans(well we aren't perfect)?
Whatever it is, it brings me to my next point of view. The different labels that our mind sets for different people. For example, in the former case, there are people one labels as passionate, while another as emotionally distress. In another example, we define an opposite spouse in many a different labels. Ladies for example are defined as sluts when they sleep around with other men while the guys are studs. In another point of view, women who sleeps around in movies are called pornstars while the guys in those films are just sad(don't you think?). Same goes for physical attraction. Imagine this guys. You see two women, one is drop dead gorgeous physically while the other is rather unattractive and both showering you with a 'seven-eleven' attention. How will they be labeled? I am confident that the pretty young thing would be labeled as 'just being loving' while the other as 'gedik' or simply saying a menace. It rather goes the same for the ladies I believe. Maybe the a different label of course. The attractive guy as 'such a gentlemen' while the nature's disaster as 'a stalker' or even better 'a psycho'.
The fact being, we love to judge people and apart from that, we get some sick twisted kick from other peoples' miseries. This is especially true if the other person is someone that we rather hate or an even harsher word, detest. We cover it up with words like 'prank', 'joke' and 'tease'. Of course we don't mean it. (sense the sarasm) But hey, as I mentioned before, we're just humble human and are incapable of being perfect, though I believe God gave us all brain, to what was that again... oh yeah THINK. Yeah we aren't perfect but can't we all, just for once, live the hatred behind? Guess we can't. And there are some out there who still label me as 'emo', when the truth is, we all are... (think about that)
